Most Pair plans cost a bit more than the equivalent disk/bandwidth combo at a discount host provider, but their long-term record is excellent and their reliability is unequalled for the price. They also offer telephone support with even the cheapest accounts, an unusual feature. PairLiteA spinoff, experimental offering from Pair that offers more disk space and bandwidth per dollar, trading off some services (like phone support). I haven't used this service but I expect the quality and integrity will be consistent with their other products. 1and1.comBeing a 1and1 customer is like being a tiny tiny cog in a giant Borg-like machine. It's not cozy, but you benefit from economies of scale. Their "Home" package gives you 120GB of storage, scads of bandwidth, and two free domain names for $5 per month. Telephone support is included, for what that's worth. I have been recommending this package to my students and have been pleased with the results so far. John CompaniesJohn Companies is a small, very responsive provider of high-end hosting services. Their specialty is Virtual Private Servers, a way to share hardware without sharing access to your files. If you need to host several different sites, or you need customizations that aren't possible on shared accounts offered by Dreamhost or Pair, John Companies my be a very good choice.
